The Alps, or Sketches of Life and Nature in the Mountains, 1861 by H. Berlepsch.

A half leather binding from the 19th century. A fine example of what a small amount of refurbishment can do.

My treatment method:

  1. Cleaned book cloth with book cloth cleaner

  2. Treated and guarded board corners with Japanese tissue and wheat starch

  3. Used acrylics and colour matching techniques to blend nicks in spine and board corners

  4. Sealed and revitalised leather with SC6000 (leather treatment)
